Beyond Skiing

There's more to snow than skiing! Resorts and/or nearby venues are offering tons of activities--both traditional and brand-new--to boost outdoor fun this season.

  • Snowshoeing
This zorb is found at Northstar's snow playground. Strap yourself in and get rolling!
  • Snowboarding
  • Snowmobiling
  • Tubing
  • Snow scootering
  • Ice climbing
  • Snow biking
  • Playing in snow (Snow playgrounds may include toys, half-pipes, terrain parks and more.)
  • Ski-foxing (The ski-fox is a snow toy, formerly known as a "jack jump," that enables the user to ski while sitting down!)
  • Sledding
  • Ice-skating
A Complete Getaway

There's plenty of fun in snow country, even for folks who'd rather sit by the fire than take to the slopes. At many resorts, indoor types can work out in a gym or pamper themselves with a massage, facial or other spa treatment while their friends are out schussing. Non-skiers and skiers alike can go sightseeing, visit a museum or just enjoy the natural beauty surrounding the resort. At Chateau Mont Sainte-Ann for example, visitors are only 30 minutes from beautiful Quebec city. Many of Lake Tahoe-area resorts are just a short drive away from the excitement of Nevada's casinos, and Rocky Mountain Golf and Ski vacationers can enjoy nearby amusement parks and outdoor parks. Like many resorts, Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa offers full spa services, a hot tub and a swimming pool.

Something for Everyone

Ski resorts love kids! In addition to offering children's ski lessons, many resorts have childcare facilities. No longer a mere baby-sitting service, resort daycare includes educational activities and structured interactive components. The very youngest tots get a gentle introduction to the "white stuff," preparing them for later ski experiences.

Many resorts offer special packages for singles and/or women. These deals may contain special activities, such as a health and fitness program, nightlife excursions and other opportunities to meet people and socialize.

And there are many programs that encourage the older, wiser set to keep skiing by offering them discounts and free ski-conditioning tips.
